Country: United Kingdom Location: Southampton Function: Scientific Research & Development Level: Experienced Professional Appointment Type: Permanent Job purpose The drivers of growth, value and competitive advantage in the tobacco industry are changing due to increased regulation. The major opportunities for BAT in the next decade will be the ability to offer a portfolio of differentiated product experiences through five innovations territories that enable BAT to compete successfully under any future market scenario. To direct and deliver materials and components projects involving the development of new or improvement in existing Technologies/Methods/Processes. Key Accountabilities Operational/Professional/Business * Applies knowledge in a key area specifically fundamental understanding of engineering and processing of component materials and tobacco * Approach to task is by selection of appropriate means learned from knowledge and experience and understanding of processing and how it can contribute to product quality * Ability to address new problems from 1st principles * Ensure 'Best Practice' is followed for all project activities Management * Planning - short term workload * Budget - adhere to financial process and controls Leadership * Provision of appropriate coaching to support others Relationship * Representative in engineering solutions for innovative materials/products with internal stakeholders and cross functional teams * Representative in interactions with external suppliers on engineering solutions * Coach/train in Senior Technician/Senior Technologist/Officer activities Innovation * Development work supported by objective evidence and validation * Interpretation of data submitted for Management/Technical Review Knowledge, Skills and Experience * Technical capability and knowledge * Understanding of the component parts of cigarettes and what function each component plays, and the manufacturing processes involved * Ability to adapt processes to deliver innovative products whilst considering the implications of scale up * Ability to use CAD to design parts for manufacture and drawings (Solid Edge preferable) * Awareness of analytic techniques used to measure material properties * Awareness of the consumer drivers and research * Understanding of the potential value of an innovation from a consumer or business perspective * Ability to influence across the team and communicate in clear and simple terms * Creative, dynamic, tenacious, receptive to change, focused Benefits: * Base salary from 28,000 to 35,000 per year, depending of relevant experience * Bonus target up to 20% of annual base salary * 25 days annual leave * Participation in Discretionary Company Bonus Scheme * Participation in Company Share Reward Scheme * Company Pension Scheme * Private Healthcare Cover * Eligibility for Company Flexible Benefits Scheme Note : at this moment, we are not looking to fill in this position, but kindly encourage you to apply and, the moment we start recruiting again, you'll be contactedas soon as possible.
