Job Description
Band 5 Staff Nurse - Adelaide Ward (Haematology/Oncology) An opportunity has arisen to appoint a band 5 nurse within our dynamic haematology / oncology ward. Adelaide ward has 23 beds including six isolation positive pressure rooms, these rooms are for high dose chemotherapy patients and patients with neutropenic sepsis who require isolation. On Adelaide ward we care for a variety of patients with acute presentations such as sepsis, acute kidney injury and metastatic spinal cord compression whereby patients need emergency radiotherapy all the way through to terminally ill patients who require palliative management. We work closely with both haematology and oncology specialities; in the past few years the haematology team have started Autologic stem cell transplants on patients with myeloma and lymphoma with exciting plans to extend the service in the future. We offer a great orientation to all area's in the Berkshire cancer centre organised and supported by the ward sisters and our oncology practice educator, We are keen to develop and support you to become a specialised cancer nurse, we have funding to support education and development for our staff including cancer specific courses and the chemotherapy course. We have also protected in house teaching sessions monthly on an assortment of topics related to the ward and specialism. We are essentially a specialist ward but we have many acute patients who need numerous interventions, there are always opportunities to practice clinical skills such as Venepuncture, cannulation, Ng insertion, male and female catheters and central line maintenance. We are seeking for professional and caring staff nurses who are committed to providing excellent nursing care to haematology and oncology patients.
