Overview
Job title: Hospital Assistant Location: Harmsworth Animal Hospital Salary: £21,840 (including London Weighting) plus 4% shift allowance Hours: 35 - 3 shift system including nights (7 on/7 off), lates and weekends on a rota basis Closing date: 31st March 2020 The RSPCA is the largest animal welfare charity in England and Wales. Our purpose as the RSPCA is to prevent cruelty, promote kindness and alleviate the suffering of all animals. The Harmsworth Animal Hospital provides frontline veterinary services for animals that are most in need. Our provision of high quality veterinary care within a non-commercial environment results in a rewarding veterinary role with a direct, positive impact on animal welfare. At the hospital you will care for a unique variety of animal welfare cases; predominantly cats, dogs and wildlife species. We are looking for someone who is confident, works well under pressure and is self motivated to work independently for the cause of animal welfare. What you’ll be doing: Undertaking nursing duties including theatre, ward and euthanasia duties as directed Undertaking, on a roster basis, emergency and out of hours cover including night work Undertaking general cleaning duties throughout the hospital including equipment, animal quarters and premises Maintaining up to date and accurate clinical records for every animal that comes into the hospital Dispensing drugs in accordance with professional guidelines and hospital rules Carrying out telephone and general reception duties on a roster basis as required Taking accurate payments from clients for veterinary services received at the time of consultation in line with RSPCA policy What you’ll have: GCSE Grade C or equivalent in Maths, English and a Science, or Key Skills level 2 Self-motivation and an ability to manage your own time Previous experience of animal care work Excellent verbal and written communication skills The ability to demonstrate teamwork with veterinary animal centre and Inspectorate colleagues An NVQ Level 2 in Animal Care or equivalent e.g. VCA, ANA is desirable.
