Overview
Arabic Speaking Translator Pertemps Scotland Ltd are working with our client in West Lothian to recruit for a Arabic Speaking Translator on a temporary basis for 12 months with potential extension. Day rate for this position is negotiable The main duties would be: - Provide an effective and professional translation service to professionals and clients in a variety of settings, accurately transmitting meaning from one language to another in a way that is easily understood by the listener(s) - Ensure punctual attendance at appointments or meeting with clients and professionals, in a variety of settings, as directed by the TSOs or Refugee Manager - Stay abreast of diarised appointment and changes to appointments through, for example, accessing the online calendar and regular contact with colleagues - Identify any scheduling conflicts to the TSOs or a member of management as promptly as possible - Participate in on call rota when required - Ensure timely and accurate completion and sign off of contact sheets - Support the Syrian Refugee Resettlement staff by listening effectively and relaying accurate information to plan and deliver effective and efficient interpretation work to professionals and service users. This will involve partnership working with a variety of other agencies - Assist the Syrian Refugee Resettlement staff by accurately transmitting meaning from one language to another, to ensure high quality services and best value are delivered to service users by ensuring that agreed plans are implemented efficiently and effectively - Take responsibility for assisting with the development of practical methods to prioritise service user needs and for planning responses to the day-to-day demands of the job - Managing your own time, so as to deliver a fair and equitable service and support according to priority need and report appropriately to the Syrian Refugee Resettlement Manager if conflicting/unresolvable demands are made on your time - Maintaining professionalism and clarity that the purpose of the role is to facilitate a two-way conversation and aid understanding by listening effectively and accurately relaying information - Researching and understanding, where necessary, the culture and customs of the country, and/or of the countries/places in which the client group/s have lived previously - To ensure that all information received and disseminated, whether verbal, written or electronic concerning all employees, prospective employees or service users is treated in the strictest confidence and that all such information held is regulated and controlled in a similar manner in compliance with Data Protection legislation - To ensure that all duties and responsibilities for enabling effective communication by transmitting meaning from one language to another are performed in a safe manner so that no risk to health and safety arises to yourself, any other employee or member of the public - Assisting by the agreed risk assessment protocols and actions with the assessment of risk and the development of protocols and mitigating actions for emergency situations as necessary - If appropriate, taking a temporary lead responsibility for any immediate Health and safety risks that arise whilst working in outreach locations, or at times out with normal working hours - To comply with the company in service delivery and employment, thereby promoting a fair and quality service to all - Undertake training as identified as appropriate and required for the effective performance of the duties of the post - Any other duties or responsibilities that may need to be allocated from time to time to ensure the efficiency of the service Essential Skills: - Previous experience of interpreting in a formal setting either in a voluntary or employed capacity - Previous experience working with local government e.g. housing, education, social work etc - Ability to verbally communicate clearly and effectively, both in English and the language/s you wish to interpret in (Arabic) - Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills - An ability to remain impartial regardless of any conflicts of interest or personal beliefs or experiences - Competent in Microsoft Office Applications - Able to work flexibly and be responsive to offers of work at short notice Desirable - Degree or equivalent - Qualification in Interpreting - Qualification in English - Qualification in ESOL, TEFL or equivalent - Knowledge of the culture and customs of the country/area where the language is spoken - UK Driving Licence Essential Requirements - Enhanced Disclosure (Which can be ordered online if the applicant does not already have one)
