Overview

Mencap are recruiting for Part time and Full time Support worker positions in Ipswich. Our supported living service is based in Ipswich, where we support 6 gentlemen and 4 ladies with a learning disability, across 6 flats in one cul de sac. The people we support range from 35-75 years old and have a diverse range of diagnoses and mild to complex needs. They all have different personalities and varying interests, so no two days are the same We will be looking to offer permanent contracts of up to 35 hours, with an opportunity to work overtime at our service or another, if this is something you would like to do. The shifts are rota’d in advance across Monday – Sunday over 24 hours. Shifts are between 7am-10pm (Include BH). There are three sleep in’s on site from 10pm-7am with a shift either side. You will be required to work one sleep in a week. We ensure you have 2 days off each week and 1 in 3 weekends off. Things you may need to support with: Personal care medication Mobility Finances Cooking, cleaning & going to the supermarket Updating relevant records Attending health appointments Social activities including day trips and holidays. You will be actively promoting and encouraging the people we support to make their own choices in everything they do. You will also be involved in great things like: planning holidays, playing snooker, attending clubs, shopping trips, eating out and much more. Three of the people we support have their own mobility cars, which we drive on their behalf. It would be preferable for applicants to have a full UK driving licence; however, this is not essential to the role. We are looking for someone with a ‘can-do’ attitude, who is enthusiastic and outgoing. The people we support require their support workers to have a genuine interest in assisting them to live as independently as possible.
