Experienced Estimator/ QS required for well-established Devon-based contractor Your new company Established over 30 years ago, our client is a respected building contractor specialising in high-end residential projects, ranging from multi-storey contemporary designs to traditional barn conversions of up to £3m in value. They have developed a reputation for design integrity, excellent customer care and for the use of high quality materials. Much of their order book is repeat business or recommendation from their client base. Your new role Based from their offices in the Torbay area, your role will involve taking commercial responsibility for projects from initial enquiry stage through to final account. Duties include: Surveying of projects with a view to pricing Assessing detailed tender documents and assessing risk, opportunity and programme Producing bills of quants and work schedules based on tender spec Contacting subcontractors and specialist suppliers for competitive pricing of specific elements Requests for information Preparation of final tender submission reports Post-order: Negotiation with subcontractors issuing contractural notices to employer and subcontractors Pricing on variations Updating company's systems with details of estimates/ variations to contracts Occasionally providing QS functions as and when required. What you'll need to succeed You should be able to demonstrate strong working knowledge of JCT contracts and be familiar with the more commonly-used estimating packages, as well as MS Project. A construction based degree is preferred, as is experience pricing bespoke residential projects. Strong communication, both written and spoken, is essential, as is a real team player attitude.
