Six month probationary period, to be extended if necessary. You must: Be legally eligible to work in the UK You need to hold a full UK driving license and be comfortable with long distance driving in all conditions. · Be able to communicate fluently in spoken and written English (For safety reasons this job is not suitable for people who do not have good fluency for listening as well as speaking) - of course this does NOT mean English must be your first language, for clarity, and ESOL speakers with fluent English are welcome to apply · Be able, allergies and phobias wise, to work in a house with an assistance dog and be able to assist in the care for him (Inc grooming and bathing) . · Be a non-smoker or at least able to guarantee never smelling smoky at work · Be open minded and comfortable around members of the LGBTQ community · Be able to manage and enjoy better-than-just-basic cooking · Be able to manage domestic/cleaning skills without close supervision and get satisfaction from getting things neat and clean under your own initiative · Be able, allergies and phobias wise, to work in a house with an assistance dog and be able to assist in the care for him (Inc grooming and bathing) . · Be comfortable with the idea of providing intimate personal care · Be able to maintain good punctuality, including early starts, and understand and respect the fact that lateness or non-attendance actually endangers me. · Be physically able to handle moving, assembling, and using heavy equipment regularly, cope with a range of moderately strenuous physical tasks, and be okay with the occasional long walks. · Have a good working memory and be comfortable with keeping track of, and managing, safety and wellness critical items and tasks on the go. This includes medications and suppositories · Have a working understanding of the Social Model of Disability · Were in theory available to work over Christmas/Hanukkah or New Year; people don't stop needing care just because it's a time when most people prefer to be among family and friends. · Have some personal experience with and understanding of competitive sport and its trappings. You don't need to have prior experience of any kind of care work. All needed training will be provided on the job. Personal care assistant’s provide care, but are different from 'carers' as you'd be working directly for me (so no middle managers or rota shenanigans). I'm not looking for a friend or companion although such close support does tend to establish a friendly rapport quickly - I have my own social circle, which Personal care assistant’s will not be part of, so being comfortable with sitting quietly on the side lines when supporting me in social situations is absolutely essential. As you will be supporting me in every element of my life, a dress code on the 'casual' side of 'smart casual' - such that would not be inappropriate in a fairly formal meeting - is required during daytime and evening hours. I'm an aspiring and improving sportsman; supporting me is likely to include a fairly significant amount of time participating in boccia training, tournaments and championship events, and thus away from home, this is a part of my life you must be comfortable in supporting me with. I'll respond to all applicants who sound like they've actually read this ad. Initial contact will be via email. I look forward from hearing from you.
