Overview

The Port of Felixstowe is one of the largest deep-water Ports in the UK and to support our continued growth and development we are looking to recruit a High Voltage Technician within the Engineering Department. The role will be reporting to the Engineering Manager – Electrical Distribution & Inspection Services, with the main purpose of the role to diagnose, rectify and repair faults on the High Voltage Network and electrical control and distribution systems up to and including 11kV on the ports container handling equipment and electrical infrastructure. The successful candidate will also maintain and commission high voltage installations within the port network. Key Requirements Ensure all maintenance and installation work is carried out effectively and safely. Work and support the Engineering Department to deliver key department objectives within daily operations in regard of the 11kV electrical infrastructure and associated low-voltage electrical distribution. Ensure that high voltage installations on the ports plant and equipment is cost effective and minimises operational disruption. Ensure compliance to all engineering standard operating practices and provide recommendations for continuous improvements. Responsible for complex high voltage test and diagnostic equipment as well as personal issued test equipment and tools. Responsible for meeting Departmental financial objectives in regard of ownership of own substations. Communicate any cost saving opportunities and actively contribute to any allocated projects to ensure that the most cost effective route is taken when undertaking HV Technician responsibilities. Responsible for the decisions on whether port equipment is safe to operate by self and others. Ability to organise maintenance and report work effectively to complete within the required timeframe. Work effectively as part of a team to achieve departmental and individual objectives. Has good communication skills and earns respect and builds trust with others. Suitable applicants should meet the following criteria: Preferred 3-years’ experience on a wide range of high voltage repairs, installations of substations, HV circuit breakers and slip ring assemblies. To include planned replacement of 11kV supply cabling and network systems. Minimum 3-years’ experience and understanding of container handling cranes, general and specific control systems. HNC in Electrical Engineering or working towards. Joint Industry Board (JIB) Electrical Installation and Testing to 18th Edition (or equivalent). It would be advantageous to have: Engineering project management would be advantageous. This role and will be working on a 37.5hour week, pattern structured Monday – Friday.
