Head of Procurement Salary circa £40,000 - £50,000 depending on experience Location – Leeds LS10 Full time; Permanent About the company Established 21 years. We are the market leader in the hotel furniture manufacturing industry, working with clients such as Marriott, Sheraton, Hilton, De Vere, Holiday Inn & Crowne Plaza. We have a 60,000 sq. ft. factory just 10 minutes from Leeds City Centre where we make high specification, bespoke hotel furniture. The pride and ability demonstrated by our workforce allows us to maintain a strong order book and drives forward our excellent reputation. About the role We are currently seeking a “hands on” Head of Procurement to join our team. The purpose of the role is to develop and execute new improved procurement strategies across all channels of purchasing, particularly sourcing of products & freight. This is a highly analytical post which includes negotiating initial costs, maximising logistics utilisation and monitoring/re-negotiating costs to reflect changes in input costs. Responsibilities but not limited to: · Train, develop and supervise the work of other members of staff · Coordinate, monitor and actively engage in price negotiation, ensuring purchasing activity protects company margin and is controlled through applying cost analysis techniques. · Actively track commodity prices, identifying opportunities to challenge suppliers for price reductions. · Defend requests for price increases from suppliers · Assist with data gathering and implementation of supplier scorecards & feedback mechanisms · Hold regular meetings with key suppliers to review forecasts and performance · Negotiate and manage contracts with suppliers · Maintain relationships with existing suppliers and source new suppliers · Analyse, action and prioritise purchasing demands generated via customer orders, forecasts to meet production schedules · Chase delivery updates and communicate as required to the Project Managers · Obtain quotations, analyse and place orders with suppliers within budget · Build and maintain good relationships with new and existing suppliers · Liaise between suppliers and relevant internal departments, dealing with problems when encountered, and advising Project Managers of timings · Investigate and take corrective action if purchased materials do not meet specified Quality or Quantity requirements · Develop purchasing strategies to make sure cost savings and supplier performance targets are met - or exceeded · Identify and suggest new suppliers to the Company. Ensure a thorough and comprehensive due diligence process is undertaken, in terms of best value, delivery schedules and quality · Ensure all purchases fully comply with legislative and Company Health and Safety · Manage supplier relationships, using supplier performance management tools · Undertake visits to existing and new suppliers when required · Ensure On-Time, In Full and Quality deliveries of materials at all time. Essential Skills & qualifications · MCIPS or a relevant degree qualification · 5 years previous purchasing experience, ideally within the furniture industry within a lean manufacturing environment · Proven background in negotiation with excellent negotiation skills · The ability to make important decisions and cope with the pressure of demanding targets and tight deadlines · Strong project management and time management skills · Ability to challenge the status quo with suppliers · An analytical skill set · IT Literate - particularly Excel · Good communicator · Experience of Computer Stock Management Systems and MRP The successful candidate will be an experienced procurement professional – ideally having worked in the furniture industry. You will be able to build mutually beneficial relationships with both suppliers and internal colleagues, have excellent negotiation skills and be highly organised. Candidates with a proven track record of setting up a procurement function will be of particular interest. Additional European languages would be beneficial but not a pre-requisite.
