Work closely with the Children’s Services Manager, Living and Learning Teacher and colleagues in promoting and maintaining the highest standards of education, care, wellbeing and achievements of the children Be prepared to work flexible hours to ensure that planned activities take place with adequate staffing and supervision Be fully conversant with the general philosophy of the school, the teaching programmes and communication systems used for individual children.Follow these carefully and contribute to their improvement. Willingness to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding which will culminate in achieving the Edexcel Level 3 Diploma for the Children’s Workforce (QCF) which is mandatory for this role. Main duties & responsibilities · Work as part of a team to ensure the children’s emotional, behavioural, physical and intellectual needs are met · Follow the child’s Risk Assessment and Behaviour Guidelines at all times to ensure a consistent and safe approach is followed. · Support the children in all aspects of their everyday life to help them make their needs known · Implement all of the children’s teaching programmes at all times and support the Teacher to ensure that children enjoy fulfilling fun teaching and leisure activities · Make and prepare resources for teaching and learning activities and undertake all activities which are essential in order to facilitate learning for the children · Encourage the children to participate in all of the time tabled activities and make these fun for the children. Where this is not possible, ensure communication to the teacher re: non-attendance is clear · Assist with the teaching of learning skills and acting as a positive role model to the children at all times · Assist the children off-site by supporting the children on trips out in the community · Develop and maintain positive and professional relationships with the children, parents work colleagues and external professionals · Undertake duties as directed by the Teachers, Team Co-ordinators, Mentors and managers and as designated by the rota. · Ensure that a high level of care is provided to each of our children including undertaking personal care tasks as necessary, including toileting assistance, bathing, washing, dressing and supporting with meal times · Undertake household duties and preparing meals for the children, sometimes with the children · Ensuring the residential living accommodation and children’s bedrooms are kept homely and comfortable reflecting their age and interests and are kept clean, tidy, healthy and safe · Ensure that all recording for a child is up-to-date including recording the child’s physical and emotional behaviour in the child’s personal behaviour diary · Assist with the administration of anti-convulsants and other medically required drugs following training · Promote good communication and encourage our children to participate in social interaction around the school and off site · Supporting proactive strategies at all times when working with the children and following the correct guidelines when dealing with challenging behaviour · Ensuring all reporting and recording is completed following an incident with a child · Promote the safeguarding and welfare of the children. Help to maintain an environment where children and young people feel secure, are encouraged to communicate and are listened to. · Supporting new employees to make them feel part of the team · Attend and contribute to team meetings and regular individual/supervision meetings with your line managers · Ensure that all information relating to both the children and staff remains confidential and those details are only discussed under the correct circumstances in accordance with the Data Protection Act of 1984. · Complete paid sleep in duties as allocated on the rota.This will occur approximately once a week · Be familiar with the safety regulations, fire evacuation procedures and the no smoking policy.
